Soaked in vivid colour and deeply inspired by our mesmerising surroundings in Jaipur Rajasthan, Hathi Store showcases the
brilliance of traditional Indian techniques with an underlying element of joy. Hathistore is an Abu Dhabi based label found by Varsha Mohandas. Hathi was born out of her love for craft culture fashion and travel. At Hathi we want to bring sustainable clothing choices for the middle eastern women, which are fun, functional and timeless. Hathi is a collaboration of Indian craftsmanship and prints made to suit the regional lifestyle here. Our dresses are proudly designed in Abu Dhabi and made in India.
We believe in better clothing. Nothing more, nothing less. Hathi Store is an exotic collection of hand block printed apparels personally designed and meticulously crafted to introduce ethical fashion to everyone’s wardrobe. We are a homegrown brand proudly founded in the UAE in 2015 and named after the Hindi word for 'Elephant'.
At Hathi there are 3 main principles we focus while designing and producing our clothes.
Our journey is the result of a compelling urge to celebrate the richness and diversity of traditional Indian textiles. The urge was strengthened with a relevant question we asked ourselves. Should our craft culture belong to the past alone; are we doing enough to revive these craft forms? We strongly believe that ancient printing techniques must get out of museums and not simply remain heirloom concepts.
We like to make effortless minimal styling that is functional for the busy modern women who like to make a positive impact on the environment with their clothing choices. Our main focus is to use hand block printed fabrics to make clothing that are relevant to the dressing etiquettes of the middle eastern women. All our products are handmade in collaboration with a group of Indian Artisans & crafters and we have been promoting their impeccable talent since our inception.
Hathi Store is inspired by a love for the rich jewel-toned hues, intricate patterns, soft natural fabrics, and earthen feel. All of our products are handmade in collaboration with a group of artisans, and crafters in India. During production, we work with multiple generations of families on all steps such as block-making, dyeing, and printing. Our aim is to develop a sustainable source of income for these families and ensure that the cultural heritage of hand block printing continues to flourish.
A Commitment to Sustainable Fashion
We promote sustainable fashion throughout our supply chain from sourcing our fabrics to how the product reaches our customers. A NEVER ENDING JOURNEY...
We focus on small-batch, ethical production where quality and craftsmanship stand above quantity. We knew we wanted to make our products the right way, not the fast way. We make our own block-printed fabrics through various producer communities in north India, who have splendidly promoted this traditional art form, over successive generations. They have been helping designers make clothing responsibly. sustainably, and ethically for over decades.
The essence of Hathi stems from our design practice and the philosophy it is rooted in functional, timeless, and conscious clothing made in India with the indigenous skills of India's regional craft belts. From the artisans across the country to the in-studio Hathi team, the transition from an idea to a Hathi piece takes place in a multifaceted process involving a deep dive in our textile archives, handblock printing and developing motifs unique to our design vocabulary. The final product is but a culmination of years of craft wisdom and technical prowess that our team-in-studio and across the country-brings on board.
Sustainable living should not be a luxury, It is everyone's right and duty to our mother nature. As much as we ensure fair wages we believe in fair prices for our customers. We wanted our dresses to be more accessible and part of your everyday elegance. The Slow fashion Industry needs everyone's support. We have worked to optimize our costing by focusing on designs with the lowest wastage and production cycle time. One of our core competencies is also our strong backward integrated production unit. We make things in-house and that avoids a lot of middlemen charges which also helps us ensure our products are made in an ethical environment. The best way we can help the artisan community is by committing continuous year around work for them, we make this possible by letting our sales channels move faster with ethical pricing for our customers. In this sustainable way of doing business everyone co-exists beautifully.
